Possessive pronouns


 An apostrophe is not needed with the possessive personal pronoun.


NOT: her’s, hers’, his’, their’s, theirs’, your’s, yours’ or it’s

BUT:  hers, his, theirs, yours and its


Examples:

            The award is hers because the judges believed she submitted the most interesting application.

            The car is his, but he rarely drives it.

            The books are theirs to use while in the library.

            Yours is a perfect example of thoughtful analysis.

            The college wants to improve its retention rate.
